FAQ'S

CAN YOU MAKE DISNEY OR OTHER WELL KNOWN CHARACTER OR THEMED DESIGNS?
I would be happy to create some 'Inspired' custom cookies using the color scheme of the theme and other non-copyright designs. Due to copyright laws I am not able to re-create designs/characters/logos, etc. without the permission of the original owner, but check out some inspired sets here to see how we can work together to create some cookies that will coordinate with your theme wonderfully without getting anyone in trouble. :)

HOW FAR IN ADVANCE SHOULD I PLACE AN ORDER FOR COOKIES?
Please inquire about a custom order with as much notice as possible! Custom order requests submitted at least 3 weeks in advance will help ensure that I am able to purchase any supplies (cookie cutters, stencils, etc.) and create stunning cookies for your next occasion. 

If I have custom order availability, I may be able to complete your cookies in less than 3 weeks time. Custom order requests made within 13 days or less from the pick-up or delivery date will be considered a rush order and a minimum charge of $25.00 will be added to the order.

Please also keep in mind that if there is a major holiday coming up, I limit custom orders to allow opportunities for pre-sales. If you are need of some delicious sugar cookies for your next event, please fill out the Custom Order Form here.

WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED?
My family and I live in Byron, MN (just outside of Rochester, MN), but my husband and I are originally from Sioux Falls, SD. We do travel back home frequently to see family so I occasionally offer pre-sale events in Minnesota and South Dakota and I can fulfill custom orders in SD if it fits within my traveling schedule.

DO YOU OFFER SHIPPING?
Makay Sweets is a registered home-based cottage food producer by the state of Minnesota that is not permitted to ship cookies anywhere.

HOW DO I RECEIVE MY ORDER?
Since I'm a home-based bakery, you must pick-up your order. Occasionally, I can do a local delivery and a minimum of a $10.00 delivery fee will apply if the ending delivery location is more than 20 miles from my home.  For SD orders, all details on when and where to pick-up your order will be listed on the pre-sale form or I will reach out to you regarding custom orders.

WHAT IS YOUR COOKIE PRICING?
All pricing for DIY Cookie Kits, Cookie Cards, PYO Cookies, and Custom Cookies can be found here and are subject to change. 

DO YOU OFFER DISCOUNTS FOR LARGE ORDERS?
Each cookie takes a lengthly amount of time to complete regardless if it is a small or large order - as they are truly little works of art. Because of this, I do not offer discounts on custom decorated sugar cookies. If there are any extras however, I may throw those in as an additional perk!

WHAT SIZE ARE YOUR COOKIES?
Typically a standard size cookie is between 3" - 4" in length, while mini cookies are about 2". However, there are lots of other sizes available upon request and will be priced accordingly. 

WHAT PAYMENT METHODS DO YOU ACCEPT?
For pre-sales, payment must be made by credit card here at makaysweets.com. For all other orders, I accept credit cards as well as cash. 

HOW WILL MY COOKIES BE PACKAGED?
All cookies will be heat sealed to make sure they stay fresh for you. Standard sized cookies will be individually heat sealed while DIY Kit, mini or small cookies may contain several cookies per package. Depending on the theme, size of the order, etc., I may place them in a box, basket or bag. If you would like your cookies individually wrapped in a gift bag with bow, ribbon, or twine, that option is available for an additional charge.

HOW LONG DO THE COOKIES LAST?
All heat-sealed cookies will last up to two to three weeks after you pick them up if they are placed in an airtight container. To keep them as soft and fresh as possible, freezing is recommended after 3-5 days in an airtight container (see below). Once the cookie is out of the heat sealed package, it's best to eat within 1-2 days or store in an airtight container for up to 3-5 days. 
 
FREEZING COOKIES
You can also freeze decorated cookies to keep them fresh for a later date. This is a perfect option if an order date is not available close to your event and you need to pick them up prior to the event, or if you would just like to keep your cookies 'fresh out of the oven' soft. 

Freezing Instructions:
• Carefully place cookies in an airtight container to freeze. You can also use freezer zip bags.
• Try not to stack them as much as possible.
• Take the cookies out of the freezer the night before you’ll need them, allowing 8-10 hours of thaw time.
• Make sure to not open the container or bag until the cookies are completely thawed or it may ruin the design.
​• Take them out of the container/bag after 8-10 hours, display, and enjoy!

DO YOU HAVE GLUTEN FREE/ALLERGY FRIENDLY OPTIONS?
Makay Sweets Home Bakery is a shared kitchen that is not free of any allergens, including gluten, soy, dairy, wheat and nuts. At this time I am not offering gluten free options, but I am always working on ways to expand the cookie menu. Be on the lookout for new cookie options in the future!
